Staff focus: Paul Mackman

Q: What is you working background?

A: I spent 20 years working at British Telecom where I worked globally in a range of senior marketing roles. Most of my roles were working with leading edge technology and I was very lucky to work with a number of good leaders. I left BT to set up my own consultancy and for seven years have worked across many sectors with a range of clients across many sectors including EMC, Invensys Plc, Mailboxes Etc and Essex County Council.

Q: What is your role at Mackman?

A: I’m a Client Lead dealing with client relations with a particular focus on project management and strategic marketing. Ultimately, I look after the clients and make sure they are getting the best that we have to offer. I’d like to think I help glue the team together to make sure the client benefits.

Q: What do you like about working here?

A: I love the variety of work; one day I could be working in the education sector, the next food and another on industrial products. I like working with clients that have a focused sense of direction and quality premium brand because we as a team have an opportunity to be really creative to help them achieve their business directives. My colleagues are all specialists in their field, I know that I am working with some very bright people and trust their ideas. It’s also a great place to work, with a friendly atmosphere.

Q: What is most challenging about your job?

A: As I work across such a wide-range of sectors, my client base is varied, so for me, this means constant juggling of different ideas and different people so that we can still deliver great customer service. However, I thrive off a challenge and I think it’s when I do my best work.

Q: How would your colleagues describe you?

A: I think that they would say that I’m committed to delivering a first class service for the client. I think they would also say that I’m a team player with a good sense of humour and like to see everyone succeed.

Q: What would we catch you up to on your days off?

A: I’m a school governor so you might see me there. I’m a keen walker and enjoy walking with my husband or friends and my dog Mac who I named after the Scottish designer Rennie Mackintosh. I also like to entertain friends and family being a keen cook and lover of wine.

Q: What are your future goals?

A: My work goal is to help grow the Mackman business further. My personal goal is pretty simple, I just want to live life to the full.
