Holly Watson wins top national award for anti-knife campaign – supported by Mackman Group

Holly Watson - Rotary Young Citizen of the Year - working with police in Suffolk to cut knife crime

Our heart-felt congratulations to Holly Watson, who has won the Rotary Young Citizen of the Year award at a ceremony in Dublin, broadcast live on the BBC News Channel last weekend. ‘I was so nervous,’ said Holly. ‘It was quite an honour.’

Holly came to our attention for her tireless anti-knife campaigning since her brother was fatally stabbed in 2009. After meeting her in person, the studio built a website to support the campaign (www.idontcarryaknife.org) and since then, Holly’s work has rarely been out of the public’s attention. Over 2,000 knives have been deposited in 6 knife amnesty bins across the county as part of Holly’s ‘Bin a Blade’ campaign and, more recently, we’ve been working with Holly on a wristband initiative, aimed at changing attitudes to knife carrying amongst young people. Holly’s award is well-deserved and we’re very proud to be associated with such an inspirational campaigner. Well done, Holly!
