Big Lunch at The Bridge Project

The Sudbury-based charity is setting up for a busy summer, with their ‘Big Lunch’ street party just around the corner!

The Bridge Project, a Sudbury charity assisting disadvantaged adults, has extended its services and opened its popular café onSaturdays.

The popular café is now open on Saturdays from 10am to 2pm, the café staff, volunteers and students couldn’t be happier about this recent expansion of their services. ‘We’re very positive about this new development,’ says Mirjam Southwell, The Bridge Project’s Lottery Project Manager. ‘It’s a creative way for us to widen our Project’s reach, as well as making our services more widely available for the local community and our students.’ The Bridge Project works with adults who are disadvantaged in one or more ways including disability, illness and unemployment.

The Bridge Project café is one of the best places in town to come for a well-made cup of tea or coffee, with delicious homemade bacon rolls and mouth-watering cakes making the perfect lunchtime treat. It is currently open from 9.30am until 3pm during the weekand provides a warm welcome for all visitors, including children of all ages.

As well as tasty food and drinks, The Bridge Project café hosts a ‘Paint Your Own Ceramics’ facility which is hugely popular with visitors to The Bridge Project. ‘We’re excited about opening on a Saturday as it means people who’ve perhaps passed by during the week when they’ve not had a chance to stop in can now come and enjoy what we have to offer,’ Mirjam explains. ‘It’s a fun and informal place, which is great for families who want to spend some quality time together at the weekend.’

Anesta Newson, MBE and CEO of The Bridge Project says, ‘Here at The Bridge Project, we’re believers in creating a community within a community – and that’s what we want our charity and the cafe to stand for. Opening the cafe on Saturdays will enable us to become an even more social community.’

The Bridge Project is also gearing up for a big Jubilee street party, taking place on Gainsborough Street on the 3rd June 2012. The ‘Big Lunch’ is in partnership with William Wood House and is a celebration of the Diamond Jubilee, but also of families and friends within the community.
