Sudbury’s local charity, The Bridge Project, will be holding its first ever summer fête this weekend, hosted by Lord and Lady Philips of Sudbury.
On Saturday 30th August, Lord Philips and Lady Penelope of Sudbury will be offering their garden on the croft to the charity, who will be providing the people of the town with a traditionally British summer fête.
“We are excited the summer fête weekend is finally here”, said Anesta Newson, founder of The Bridge Project. “Our students and staff have been busy preparing for the event which promises to be an afternoon full of traditional British treats… from scones, cream and jam, to cakes, craft stalls and even a Punch and Judy show.”
Lady Penelope is a patron of the charity, showing support for many of The Bridge Project’s initiatives. “We are very grateful for their support for the fête and letting us host the event in their beautiful garden,” said Anesta.
Organised by the students, staff and volunteers at The Bridge Project, there will be various things to see and do at the event. There will be a variety of stalls, from book stalls, crafts including ‘Paint your own’ ceramics and Bric-a-brac, to plant and produce stalls selling chutneys and jams made by the students at The Bridge Project.
“These events are great for our students who help to organise the whole day. It gives them valuable work experience and builds on their confidence and social skills.” said Anesta. The money raised from the fête will go towards all the work the charity do to continue to help the students learn and develop.
The event is supported by a number of other local organisations. Sudbury’s Waitrose will be volunteering their time catering at the event as well as providing freshly baked scones. Volunteers from Bates Wells and Braithwaite solicitors will be running the Tombola. Local research and marketing agency, Mackman Group, will also be sponsoring the event having designed the poster for the fête.
“It’s great to be able to support a charity that does so much for our local community, we hope the fête is a great success” said Paul Mackman, Managing Director of Mackman.
